
Vijay Hazare is remembered fondly as one of the finest batters to have represented the Indian Cricket Team. He captained India in 14 matches between 1951 and 1953. 3. 155 vs England (Bombay, now Mumbai, 1951)
This knock helped Vijay Hazare become the first Indian batter to score three consecutive Test match centuries. Pankaj Roy scored a fabulous century in the first innings after opening the batting. 2. 164 vs England (Delhi, 1951)
England scored 203 runs in the first innings. Hazare bowled five overs, all of them being maidens. Vijay Merchant scored a fantastic 154 while opening the batting. Hazare, on the other hand, came out to bat at No. 4. The Indian skipper scored a magnificent 164, batting under immense pressure. His unbeaten knock helped India declare on 418/6. In their second innings, England finished on 368/6 as the game ended in a draw.
1. 116 and 145 vs Australia (Adelaide, 1948)
This has to be Vijay Hazare’s best performance in his international career. Australia scored a mammoth 674 in the first innings of the fourth Test in Adelaide. Don Bradman smashed a remarkable double century.
In reply, India were bowled out for 381. Hazare scored 116 in the first innings. Australia asked India to follow on. The Asian side were rolled over for 425 in their second essay. Hazare put on 145 in his second outing with the bat. While Australia won the match by an innings and 16 runs, Hazare won hearts with his stellar performance.
