Top five wicket-takers in SA20 2024

Sunrisers Eastern Cape successfully defended their title to win their second successive SA20 Trophy. Aiden Markram and his side won the title by beating Durban Super Giants in the finals of the tournament on Saturday, February 10. 

Batting first, the Sunrisers scored a massive total of 204 on the board. Tristan Stubbs and Tom Abell scored half-centuries while Jordan Markram and Jordan Hermann scored 42 each. Marco Jansen’s 5/30 helped the Sunrisers clinch the title by a massive 90-run margin. 

As the season ended here we take a closer look at the top five wicket-takers in SA20 2024 season. 

5- Keshav Maharaj – Durban Super Giants – 15 wickets

South Africa’s best spin bowler showed his wares in the shortest format of the game. Keshav Maharaj captained his Durban side well and took them to the final. In the summit clash the 34-year-old picked 2/33 to end the tournament with 15 wickets. 

4- Lizaad Williams – Joburg Super Kings – 17 wickets

Veteran pacer Lizaad Williams is one of the biggest bright spots for Joburg Super Kings this season. The 30-year-old proved to be a huge weapon for Faf Du Plessis just when the chips were down. Thanks to the efforts of the fiery quick, Joburg reached the playoffs but couldn’t win the title. 

3- Daniel Worrall – Sunrisers Eastern Cape – 17 Wickets 

32-year-old Australian pacer Daniel Worrall witnessed a resurgence in his fortunes during the SA20 season. Daniel Worrall hasn’t played for Australia in nearly 8 years. With 17 wickets to help his side win the title, the pacer proved to be a huge success. With the T20I World Cup scheduled later this year, Daniel Worrall has staked his claim for a spot in the team. 

2– Ottniel Baartman – Sunrisers Eastern Cape – 18 wickets

At the age of 30, Ottniel Baartman was given a call-up for the India series late last year. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get his South African cap against the visiting side. Ottniel Baartman put the South African selectors on notice with 18 wickets during the SA20 tournament. His best figures of 4/10 helped the Sunrisers beat Joburg to enter the finals of the tournament. Ottniel Baartman also has the best economy rate for a top 5 bowler at 6.95 runs per over.

1. Marco Jansen- Sunrisers Eastern Cape – 20 wickets

23-year-old South African all-rounder Marco Jansen has built up a reputation for himself in the last few years. That came true as the lanky pacer decimated the Durban batting on Saturday. Marco Jansen picked 5/30 in the final to zoom past the competition to rank himself at the top of the wicket-takers list.
