Top 3 teams to reach hundred in fewest deliveries in IPL history

Batting in T20 cricket has changed over the years. There was a time when scoring 60 runs in the powerplay or 200 runs at the end of the innings was enough. However, things have changed and the bar is higher except for the knockout games in global events and the leagues. By the time any tournament reaches the knockout stages, the pitches behave differently.

Also, the pressure of chasing and even failing while batting first because huge as there is less margin of error. Meanwhile, talking about the IPL, the batting standards have gone to different levels. Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will discuss three quickest hundreds by IPL teams over the course of 17 seasons, including the ongoing one.

Three teams with the quickest hundreds in IPL

In the 35th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League, the home team, Delhi Capitals won the toss and bowled first. Just like other teams, the 2020 finalists paid for this mistake dearly and conceded 103/0 in the first five overs.

The likes of Travis Head and uncapped Indian player, Abhishek Sharma put together 126/0 at the end of the powerplay, the highest total in the powerplay phase. Even though the team managed to get only 266/7 at the end, they bowled out the home side for 199 runs, winning the game by 67 runs.

2. Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore, 2017

In the reverse fixture between both teams in the 10th season, the home team, RCB batted first after losing the toss. They managed only 158/6 on a sluggish surface, which was a feature in the 2017 season at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Meanwhile, chasing a meager target, the likes of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine made a mockery of RCB bowling, scoring 105/0 at the end of the powerplay. The two-time winners ended up winning the game by six wickets.

3. Chennai Super Kings against Punjab Kings in 2014

Both teams were looking to book a place in the final against the eventual winners, Kolkata Knight Riders, who made a comeback in the tournament after an extremely slow start. Meanwhile, in the Qualifier Two match between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings, Virender Sehwag’s first hundred for Punjab and second overall helped the team reach 226/6.

In reply, despite losing Dwayne Smith early, Suresh Raina scored 87 off just 24 balls and helped the team reach 100/1 in six overs. The Champions Trophy 2013 winner might have broken Chris Gayle’s record of fastest hundred but that wasn’t meant to be. After the former’s wicket, the team bundled out for 202/7.
