Top 3 talking points from India vs England Test series

An engrossing Test series between India and England has finally come to an end. The hosts, India, extended their invincible run at home as they now have won 17 Test series in a row. There was a lot of anticipation before the series started and it delivered the hype although the series ended with a one-sided affair in Dharamsala. On this note let us look back and put some spotlight on the top 3 talking points from the series.

This is young India’s conquest

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan

In this series, the Indian team played without some of their key players. Virat Kohli missed the whole series whereas KL Rahul was ruled out due to injury after the first Test. Ravindra Jadeja was also not available in the second Test. However, these exclusions did not deter Team India as the new faces took up the responsibility. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Shubman Gill, and Dhruv Jurel filled the void. This memorable series victory is attributed to these youngsters who lived up to the expectations. For India, this is not just another series victory but the two-time World Test Championship finalists have found their next-generation stars.

Bazball buried brutally

English team

The noisy bandwagon of Bazball advocates has met with a brutal accident in this series. Brendon McCullum-led England have got a reality check on this tour. The whole bubble created around the fearless approach which the English media termed as ‘Bazball’ has been deflated by a ruthless Indian unit. The lack of game awareness among the English players had an adverse impact and there needs to be an urgent recalibration of the philosophy that the English side has adopted. One thing that the English media and more importantly the English team must understand is that the inability to defend cannot be covered up by a fancy term. This series loss should initiate a serious discourse in England cricket as to what the future roadmap should be.

Captain Rohit Sharma has grown in stature

Rohit Sharma

This series win is a massive achievement for Rohit Sharma as captain. In the absence of big names like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja (for one Test), Rohit has led this young side to a memorable series victory. India had a very inexperienced batting unit and after the agonizing loss in the first Test, all the pressure was on the Indian skipper. He also had to prove with his bat because there were questions on his individual form as well. The 36-year-old did what was required of him and in a very shrewd fashion, he conquered every obstacle. Captain Rohit Sharma is known for galvanizing the youngsters and once again his man-management skills came to the fore as he marshalled his team to a resounding comeback.
