Top 3 Sri Lanka Batters at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

Sri Lanka had a difficult campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026, struggling to find momentum against strong opposition in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. The team showed glimpses of promise but was unable to produce consistent results during the competition. After a strong group stage performance, they could not replicate the same in the Super 8 and eventually were knocked out of the competition. 

Despite the challenges, a few Sri Lankan batters managed to impress with their performances. Their contributions with the bat stood out during the tournament and played an important role in keeping the team competitive in several matches.

Their inspirational captain Dasun Shanka had a brilliant tournament with the bat, with him scoring runs when his team needed him on various occasions. The right-hander scored 165 runs in just six innings with an impressive strike rate of 187.50. 

He scored a 20-ball fifty in the group stage match against Oman. Shanaka’s innings of 76 runs off 31 balls against Pakistan in their last Super 8 match will be remembered for the ages, as he fought a one-man battle for his team. Despite the team’s disappointing result, he rose to the occasion several times.  

2. Pavan Rathnayake

The middle-order batter from Sri Lanka was brilliant throughout the tournament for the co-hosts. Rathnayake scored 205 runs in seven innings for the Lankans, with an impressive strike rate of 154.13. 

He scored 28-ball 60 against Oman in their group stage encounter, carrying on his fine form with several impactful knocks including 15-ball 28 not out among them. He ended his campaign on a high with a 58-run knock in just 37 balls against Pakistan.

The sensational opener from Sri Lanka was the best batter for the Lankans in this tournament. The 27-year-old batter scored 211 runs in seven innings, with a strike rate of 147.55. 

He also scored a sensational 52-ball 100 against Australia in their group stage match. The knock made several records, becoming the first player to score a century against Australia in a T20I run chase.
