Players spend years honing their talents in first-class cricket, and as a result, many of them receive calls to their national Test teams. Many batters who have scored tons of runs over the years have graced the first-class stage. Here are the top 3 highest run-scorers for Mumbai in First Class cricket.

3. Ajinkya Rahane

With 5145 runs, Ajinkya Rahane is the third-highest run-scorer for Mumbai in First Class Cricket. At the age of 19, Rahane made his first-class cricket debut for Mumbai against Karachi Urban. The Irani Trophy match pitted Rahane and the rest of India against one another. In his second Ranji season (2008–09), he made a crucial contribution to Mumbai’s 38th title win. He scored 265 not out (batting at number three for Mumbai versus Hyderabad in the 2009–10 season and competition) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal. In three different seasons, Rahane amassed 1000 runs or more, and his 152 against Rajasthan in the 2011 Irani Trophy match helped him get chosen for the Indian Test squad.

With 5283 runs, Suryakumar Yadav is the second-highest run-scorer for Mumbai in First Class Cricket. He contributed steadily and with experience to the Mumbai Ranji team. He temporarily served as the Mumbai cricket team’s captain during the Ranji Trophy. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) relieved him of his captaincy during the 2014–15 Ranji Trophy season, and he was then dropped from the team for the 2018–19 season. But the MCA selection panel ultimately decided on him and crowned him the competition’s captain for the 2019–20 season. Suryakumar Yadav served as the Mushtaq Ali Syed Trophy squad captain for Mumbai in 2020–21.

With 8178 runs, Wasim Jaffer is the all-time highest run-scorer for Mumbai in First Class Cricket. He was an opening batsman who occasionally bowled off-breaks with his right arm. He now holds the record for the most runs scored in the cricket Ranji Trophy, surpassing Amol Muzumdar. In November 2018, he achieved 11,000 runs in the competition for the first time. He overcame Devendra Bundela of Madhya Pradesh in January 2019 to take the record for most appearances in Ranji Trophy history. He was chosen to oversee the batting of Bangladesh’s cricket team. In March 2020, he announced his retirement from all kinds of cricket.
