Top 3 reasons why KKR lost their IPL 2025 game to LSG

3 reasons why KKR lost their IPL 2025 game to LSG

Defending IPL winners KKR lost their home match to Lucknow on Tuesday by four runs. The high-scoring game saw 472 runs with Lucknow scoring 238 after putting it into bat by KKR skipper Rahane. Nicholas Pooran was not out on 87 off just 36 balls while Mitchell Marsh scored 81.

In reply, Sunil Narine gave KKR a great start with 13-ball 30 before Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer then took the fight to LSG before both fell in quick succession. Rinku Singh tried to stage a late fightback but it wasn’t enough as Lucknow held on to win the game by four runs.

Here are the 3 reasons why KKR lost to LSG in IPL 2025 match

3- Lack of wickets by new ball bowlers

Vaibhav Arora who is normally known to take wickets with the new ball was poor on Tuesday versus LSG. Arora was smashed around the park by Marsh and Markram as the LSG duo added 99 runs for the first wicket. Spencer Johnson who has been touted for his speed and wicket-taking abilities has failed to show the world why he is rated highly back home in Australia.

2- Sunil Narine’s diminishing returns as a spinner

Former West Indian star Sunil Narine is one of the top wicket-takers in IPL history. Narine hasn’t been effective with the ball so far this season and failed to pick any wickets against LSG. Narine was hit for 38 runs from his 3 overs and didn’t pick any wicket. KKR have been hurt by the fact that Narine has been ineffective so far with the ball this season and his normally penetrative bowling seems to have vanished.

1- Andre Russell’s form

Yet another player who has been in bad form with the bat for KKR is none other than Andre Russell. The big-hitting West Indian hasn’t been able to do the damage with the bat as he used to a few years ago. Russell was out for just seven runs on Tuesday and lost his wicket at a time when KKR still had the chance to win the game. Rinku Singh would have loved to have Russell at the other end and take his team home to a famous win.
