By accomplishing this, Kohli surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin’s record of 156 catches to become India’s most successful fielder in one-day internationals. Currently, Kohli, who set the record in his 299th ODI encounter, has 158 catches.

Even after ending his ODI career ten years ago in March 2015, former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene is still the most successful fielder in ODI cricket. Mahela Jayawardene has picked 218 catches from 448 games as he is still the No. 1 player in the list of most catches by player in ODI. Playing in a Test match for Sri Lanka he picked 205 catches and in the shortest format of the game he picked 17 catches for Sri Lanka. Not only in fielding Mahela Jayawardene helped Sri Lanka to win many games with his bat also.
