Punjab Kings had yet another shambolic campaign in the last season of the IPL but auctions allow addressing the issues in the squad. Kings would be waiting for the mini-auction with a lot of anticipation as their next season’s destiny would be under the hammer. They do have a good squad but the management must strengthen it as the competition is very cut-throat in IPL. #1. Wanindu Hasaranga

Punjab Kings don’t have a world-class wrist spinner in the squad. Wrist spinners, over the years, have been instrumental in the shortest format. Teams having quality wrist spinners have traditionally fared well in IPL and Wanindu Hasaranga is known as a proper wicket-taker. The Sri Lankan can also turn the match with his batting abilities in the lower middle order. He can take on the bowlers in the later phase of the innings which will help Punjab to post big totals on the board.

#2. Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan was released by Punjab before the mini-auction but the Kings may look to add him to the squad at a lesser price. Shahrukh was bought by Punjab for a price tag of around 9 crores which was a very high sum but the hard-hitting middle order from Tamil Nadu could not justify the price tag with his performance which has resulted in his ouster from the team. But bringing him back for a lower price would be a wise decision as the batter surely has the potential to leave his mark in the middle order.

The ‘Palghar Express’ had an underwhelming season for Kolkata Knight Riders last time around but if he is used well by the captain then he can produce results for the team. He is an experienced street-smart fast bowler and Punjab needs such Indian bowlers as they only have Arshdeep Singh as a prominent Indian fast bowler. Shardul can also come in handy with the bat in the lower order. He is a proper package of a player who can contribute with multiple skills.
