Top 3 performances of Zaheer Abbas in ODIs

Zaheer Abbas made his ODI debut in August 1974 against England at Nottingham. He did not enjoy the same level of success in ODIs as he did in Test matches. He played 62 ODIs for Pakistan and scored 2572 runs at an average of 47.62. He scored seven centuries in ODIs, and three of these seven centuries came against India. India was the only opponent against whom Zaheer scored more than 500 runs in ODIs.

He scored his first ODI century in 1981 and reached the top of his ODI career the following year. In 1982, Zaheer played 14 ODI games for Pakistan and scored 677 runs at an average of 52.07. He made four centuries and two half-centuries that year.

1. 123 runs vs Sri Lanka at Lahore, 1982

Zaheer’s highest individual score in ODIs came against Sri Lanka in 1982 during Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan. He scored 123 runs off just 87 deliveries. His innings helped Pakistan post a total of 239 runs for the loss of four wickets. It was his only century against Sri Lanka in ODIs.

2. 118 runs vs India at Multan, 1982

Zaheer scored his first of three ODI centuries against India in 1982. In the second ODI in Multan, Zaheer scored 118 runs off 86 deliveries and had a partnership of 205 runs for the second wicket along with Mohsin Khan. With the ball, Zaheer took two wickets for 33 runs and won the Player of the Match award. It was his first PoM award against India in ODIs.

3. 113 runs vs India at Karachi, 1983

Zaheer won his second Player of the Match award against India on January 21, 1983, at Karachi. He scored 113 runs off 99 deliveries in the match and had a partnership of 170 runs for the third wicket with Mudassar Nazar. His innings helped Pakistan chase down the target of 198 runs in 35 overs and won the match by eight wickets.
