Trent Boult played his first ODI game in July 2012 against the West Indies. He played his last ODI game against India in the ODI World Cup 2023. Boult played 114 ODI games for the Blackcaps and picked 211 wickets at an average of 24.38, an economy of 4.99, and a strike rate of 29.2. He finished as the fourth-highest wicket-taker for New Zealand in ODIs. He won a total of nine Player of the Match awards in ODIs.

In the second ODI of the West Indies tour of New Zealand in 2017, New Zealand batted first and scored 325 runs for the loss of six wickets. George Worker, Ross Taylor, and Henry Nicholls scored a half-century each. In reply, the West Indies were bundled out for 121 runs. Boult took seven wickets for 34 runs in 10 overs and bowled three maiden overs as well. It was only the second time a New Zealand bowler took a seven-wicket haul in ODIs.

In the third ODI of the Australia tour of New Zealand in 2017, New Zealand batted first and piled up 281 runs for the loss of nine wickets with the help of a century from Ross Taylor. Australia was bundled out for 257 runs, and Boult picked six wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs. He bowled a maiden over as well. Boult won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance.

3. 5/17 vs Pakistan in Dunedin, 2018

In 2018, Pakistan toured New Zealand to play a five-match ODI series. The third ODI was played at Dunedin on January 13. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat and scored 257 runs before getting all out. Boult took five wickets for 17 runs in 7.2 overs and bowled a maiden over as well.
