Top 3 performances of Sourav Ganguly in IPL

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, fondly known as ‘Dada’, is a legend in Indian cricket. He is renowned for his leadership and elegant strokeplay, and brought the same passion to the Indian Premier League (IPL) during its early years. As the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the inaugural season, he delivered several memorable performances. Here, let us look at three of his best IPL knocks.

91 vs Deccan Chargers, Hyderabad, 2008

After a slow start to IPL 2008, Ganguly found his form in the 32nd match of the season against Deccan Chargers. He led from the front with a brilliant 91 off just 57 balls, guiding KKR to a formidable total of 204. His innings was built with aggressive strokeplay, helping the team secure a 23-run victory. Ganguly also contributed with the ball, taking two key wickets, Scott Styris and Sanjay Bangar, showcasing his all-round brilliance.

88 vs Deccan Chargers, Kolkata, 2010

In a commanding performance at Eden Gardens, Ganguly played a captain’s knock, scoring 88 runs off 54 balls. With little support from the top order, Ganguly anchored the innings, smashing nine fours and five sixes. His effort powered KKR to 181 for six, and KKR won the match by 24 runs. This innings highlighted his ability to take charge under pressure in front of the home crowd.

86 vs Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata, 2008

KKR were chasing 175 against Kings XI Punjab and Ganguly played one of his most composed and impactful innings. KKR lost early wickets after a solid start in the powerplay from Ganguly and Salman Butt. With the team struggling at 106 for 6 in the 16th over, Ganguly formed a crucial partnership with Umar Gul.
