Sanjay Bangar was born on October 11, 1972, in Beed, Maharashtra. He played for the Railways throughout his domestic career that spanned for more than 20 years. Bangar made his first-class debut in 1993 and played his last game in 2014. Bangar made his Test debut against England in 2001 and his ODI debut happened in 2002 against the same opponent.

Bangar scored 470 runs in 12 Test matches in his career, including a century. In ODIs, he made 180 runs in 15 games at an average of 13.84. He scored over 8000 runs in first-class cricket and took 300 wickets.

Bangar’s maiden and only Test century came against Zimbabwe in only his second Test. Zimbabwe came to India in 2001 to play a two-match Test series. In the first Test, Bangar was one of three batters who scored a century. He remained unbeaten on 100 runs off 155 deliveries. India declared their innings on 570 runs for the loss of seven wickets and won the match by an innings and 101 runs.

2. 68 runs and 2 wickets vs England at Headingley, Leeds (2002):

In the third Test of India’s tour of England, Bangar opened the innings for India and scored 68 runs. He faced a total of 236 deliveries and hit 10 boundaries. India declared the innings on 628 runs for the loss of eight wickets. England made 273 runs in return and 309 runs when they were asked to follow-on. India won the match by an innings and 46 runs. Bangar took two wickets as well in the match. It was the last time India won a Test match at Leeds.

3. 55 runs vs West Indies, Mumbai (2002):

In the first Test between India and the West Indies in 2002, Bangar opened the innings with Virender Sehwag. The duo added 201 runs for the first wicket. India scored 457 runs in the first innings and went on to win the match by an innings and 112 runs.
