Top 3 performances of Roger Binny in Tests

Roger Binny made his Test debut against Pakistan in November 1979 in the first Test of the six-match series when Pakistan toured India. He played 27 Test matches for India and took 47 wickets at an average of 32.63. He took two five-wicket hauls in Tests, one of them coming against Pakistan and the other against England. These were two of his best performances in Test cricket. Let’s look at three of the best performances of Roger Binny in Test cricket:

1. 52*, 6/56 & 2/45 vs Pakistan in Kolkata, 1987

Binny’s career started against Pakistan, and he played his last Test against the same opponent. The 1987 home series against Pakistan was the last of Binny’s career. In the second Test of the series, Binny scored an unbeaten 52 runs in the first innings. He took six wickets for 56 runs in the first innings and two wickets in the second innings. Binny won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance. It was the only time Binny won the Player of the Match award in Test cricket.

2. 5/40 & 2/18 vs England in Leeds, 1986

India traveled to England in 1986 for a three-match Test series and won the first match by five wickets. The second Test match was played at Leeds. Binny took his first five-wicket haul in the first innings and took two wickets in the second innings. His bowling efforts helped India restrict England to 102 and 128 runs, respectively. India won the match by 279 runs. This was India’s first win at Leeds.

3. 83* vs Pakistan in Bengaluru, 1983

In September-October 1983, India hosted Pakistan for a three-match Test series. The first Test match was played at the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium in Bangalore. Binny scored 83 runs off 233 deliveries in the first innings. He was the highest scorer for India and helped the team post a total of 275 runs. The match ended in a draw.
