Rishabh Pant celebrated his 28th birthday on October 4, 2025. Since his Test debut in 2018, Pant has enthralled the fans with some of the best knocks in the format.
Pant has played fearless cricket in Test matches, often taking on bowlers with aggressive and innovative strokes that have even cost him a few milestones. He has seven scores of 90s in Test cricket in just 47 matches. But he has managed to get into Test folklore thanks to his multiple match-winning innings, including the best of all in Gabba, Brisbane.
Here are the top 3 performances of Rishabh Pant in Test cricket:
3. 159* vs Australia, Sydney, 2019
This is Rishabh Pant’s highest Test score to date. His 159* came for India, against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), during the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series. India were asked to bat first, and their batters took full advantage of one of the flattest SCG wickets. Mayank Agarwal started with a knock of 77 runs and though the middle order faltered, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant took India to 622/7d.
Pujara made 193 runs in 373 balls with 22 fours to his name to tire the Australian bowlers. But it was Pant whose 159* grounded Australians into submission. Pant toyed with Australian bowlers, hitting 15 fours and one six in his 189-ball stay. He added 204 runs with Ravindra Jadeja (81). Australia responded with 300 and 6/0 after being asked to follow on, as rain brought an early end to the game. This draw gave India their first-ever Test series win in Australia by 2-1.
2. 134 & 118 vs England, Leeds, 2025
Rishabh Pant had a wretched time in the IPL 2025 despite hitting a century at the fag end of the tournament. There were questions over his form for the England Test tour, but he quelled all the concerns with a record show in the first Test of the series in Leeds.
India were asked to bat first at Headingly and scored 471 runs thanks to centuries by Yashasvi Jaiswal (101), Shubman Gill (147), and Rishabh Pant (134). Pant hammered his century with 12 fours and six sixes. England replied with 465 runs thanks to a century by Ollie Pope.
Then in the second innings, India posted 364 runs, and Rishabh Pant hammered 118 runs with 15 fours and three sixes, after KL Rahul had made 137 runs. With this, Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score two centuries in the same Test and the second keeper overall, after Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower.
1. 89* vs Australia, Brisbane, 2020
This knock might not have ended in triple figures, but Pant has been immortalised himself with it. This was the fourth and final Test between Australia and India of the BGT 2020-21 and was played at the Gabba, Brisbane, where Australia had not lost a test since 1988. After four days of entertaining cricket, India were set 328 runs to win. Shubman Gill made 91 to give a good start, while Cheteshwar Pujara made 56 to keep India going.
But it was Pant who took on the Australian bowlers and shepherded the lower order. Pant hammered nine fours and one six in his 138-ball 89* knock as he took India to a series-winning three-wicket win. India became the first Asian team to win back-to-back Test series in Australia and created history.
