Mohammad Kaif led the Indian Under-19 team that won the Under-19 World Cup 2000. It was the first time an Indian lifted the cup. Kaif made his India debut two months after that final in a Test match against South Africa. His ODI debut came two years later in 2002 against England.

He featured in 13 Tests and 125 ODIs for India. In Test matches, Kaif scored 624 runs at an average of 32.84 while in ODIs, he made 2753 runs at an average of 32.01. He hit one century in Test matches and two in ODIs.

Kaif played one of his most memorable innings in the final of the NatWest Series in 2002 against England. India were chasing a target of 326 runs and lost the first five wickets for 146 runs. Kaif had a partnership of 121 runs for the sixth wicket with Yuvraj Singh. He remained unbeaten on 87 runs off 75 deliveries and helped India win the game by two wickets in 49.3 overs. Kaif won the Player of the Match award for his batting performance.

2. 111* vs Zimbabwe – Champions Trophy, Colombo (25 September 2002)

Kaif made his maiden ODI century against Zimbabwe in the third match of the Champions Trophy 2002. His knock of 111 runs off 112 deliveries helped India post 288 runs for the loss of six wickets. India won the match by 14 runs.

3. 148* vs West Indies, St. John’s (June 2006)

Kaif made his first and only century in Test matches against the West Indies in 2006 during India’s tour of the West Indies. He received a callup to the Indian side after Sachin Tendulkar was ruled out of the series and featured in all four matches. In the second Test, Kaif made 148 runs and was one of the three centurions.
