Top 3 performances of Meg Lanning in international cricket

Meg Lanning is widely regarded as one of the finest batters to have represented Australia women’s national cricket team. With 345 runs in six Tests, 4602 runs in ODIs, and 3405 runs in T20Is, along with 17 centuries and 36 half-centuries across formats, Lanning’s career is filled with remarkable performances. Her ability to dominate bowlers and lead from the front has resulted in several match-winning knocks.

Here are top three performances of Meg Lanning in international cricket:

103 vs New Zealand Women, Sydney, 2012

One of Lanning’s earliest standout performances came against the New Zealand women in Sydney in 2012. Chasing a modest target of 178, Australia delivered a dominant batting display. New Zealand were bowled out for 177 in 45.4 overs, with Nicola Browne top-scoring with 42, while Suzie Bates contributed 39. For Australia, Erin Osborne was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3/32 in her 10 overs.

In reply, Australia chased down the target in just 21.2 overs. Alyssa Healy played a steady hand of an unbeaten 62, but it was Lanning who stole the show, as she smashed a breathtaking 103 off just 50 balls, including 18 fours and three sixes, at a strike rate of over 200. The innings remains one of the fastest centuries in women’s ODIs.

152* vs Sri Lanka Women, Bristol, 2017

During the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017, Lanning produced one of her finest ODI knocks against Sri Lanka women in Bristol. Sri Lanka posted a competitive 257/9, thanks largely to a magnificent unbeaten 178 from Chamari Athapaththu. Australia’s bowling effort was shared, with Ellyse Perry, Kristen Beams, and Nicole Bolton picking up two wickets each.

In response, Australia chased down the target comfortably in 43.5 overs. Bolton contributed 60 runs, but Lanning’s unbeaten 152 off 135 balls was the defining effort. Her innings included 19 fours and a six, combining elegance with authority as she anchored the chase and guided her team to an eight-wicket victory.

133* vs England Women, Chelmsford, 2019

Lanning delivered another masterclass in T20Is against England women in Chelmsford in 2019. In the first T20I of the series, she produced a record-breaking innings that powered Australia to a massive win. Australia posted a daunting total of 226/3 in 20 overs, with Beth Mooney scoring 54. Lanning led from the front with an unbeaten 133 off just 63 balls, smashing 17 fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 211.11.

England struggled in reply and were restricted to 133/9. Lauren Winfield-Hill top-scored with 33, while Megan Schutt (3/25) and Perry (2/11) ensured a dominant 93-run victory for Australia.
