3. 5/41 vs Pakistan, Cape Town, 2002

This was the fifth ODI of the series between South Africa and Pakistan and was played in Cape Town. South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 265/8. Boeta Dippenaar scored 93, Jonty Rhodes made 81, while Mark Boucher made 34 in just 16 balls.

Jacques Kallis starred with the ball, as Pakistan were bowled out for 231 runs. This was despite Inzamam-ul-Haq’s 63 and Younis Khan’s 72. Kallis picked the wickets of Mohammad Yousuf, Inzamam, Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, and Mohammad Sami. The all-rounder finished with figures of 5/31.

2. 139 vs West Indies, Johannesburg, 2004

South Africa and the West Indies clashed in the fifth ODI of the series at Johannesburg in 2004. West Indies batted first after winning the toss and hammered the Proteas bowlers, scoring 304/2 in 50 overs. Chris Gayle hammered 152* in 153 balls with 12 fours and three sixes, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul made 85 runs and Ricardo Powell made 49* in 24 balls.

Herschelle Gibbs got out for 15 runs, and captain Graeme Smith made 58. But it was Jacques Kallis who held the chase together. He hammered 139 in 142 balls with 11 fours and three sixes, which remained his highest ODI score in his career as South Africa won the game by four wickets.

1. 113* vs Sri Lanka, semi-final ICC Knockouts Trophy, 1998

The Knockout Trophy win in 1998 remained South Africa’s only ICC trophy victory until their World Test Championship triumph in 2025. South Africa clashed in the first semi-final against Sri Lanka in Dhaka and were asked to bat first.

Nuwan Zoysa and Chaminda Vaas hurt South Africa early on, reducing them to 87/4 in 17 overs. But then Jacques Kallis made 113* in 100 balls with five fours and five sixes as South Africa posted 240/7 in 50 overs. Then Steve Elworthy and Pat Symcox took three wickets each, as Sri Lanka folded for 132 runs, giving South Africa a win by 92 runs via the DLS method. Kallis got the Player of the Match award for his century.
