Top three performances of Inzamam-ul-Haq in OD Cricket:

3. 122 vs India, Karachi (2004)

Pakistan faced India in the first ODI in a five-match series in Karachi on March 13, 2004. The Men in Blue posted a mammoth 349/7 on a belter of a track, with Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Kaif, and Sourav Ganguly making crucial contributions. However, Pakistan were not ready to go down without a fight. Mohammad Yousuf did score a 68-ball 73, but the star of the show was Inzamam, who kept fans on the edge of their seats with his brilliant knock under pressure.

The right-handed batter, who was also the captain of the Pakistan team at that point, hammered 122 runs off 102 balls, belting 12 fours and two maximums. He was eventually dismissed by Murali Kartik in the 43rd over. This turned out to be the turning point in the match as Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals from this point onwards. In the end, they were bowled out for 344, falling five runs short of India’s score.

2. 137 vs New Zealand, Sharjah (1994)

Inzamam played a stunning knock in the second semi-final of the Austral-Asia Cup in Sharjah on April 20, 1994. The Multan-born walked out to bat at No. 3 after Saeed Anwar and Aamer Sohail provided a solid platform against New Zealand. Inzamam hit 15 fours during his unbeaten knock of 137 off 129 balls against a strong Kiwi bowling attack. Pakistan eventually finished on 328/2 in their 50 overs after being invited to bat first.

In reply, New Zealand were restricted to 266/7, as Pakistan cruised into the final. The Men in Green carried the momentum forward from this resounding win and defeated arch-rivals India in the final to clinch the title. Apart from Inzamam, Aamer Sohail also scored a century in the semi-final.

1. 60 vs New Zealand, Auckland (1992)

Some half-centuries are more valuable than three-figure scores. Inzamam’s 60 against New Zealand in the 1992 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in Auckland is a prime example. The Pakistani batter was in the initial stages of his international career, having made his debut only a few months back. However, he showed great composure and determination to take his team home in the knockout fixture.

Chasing a 263-run target, Pakistan needed to up the ante in the back end of their innings, and Inzamam’s 60-run knock off 37 balls was just what the doctor ordered for the Asian side. He hit seven fours and one six in his knock, as Pakistan reached home with four wickets and an over to spare.
