Horace Cameron was one of the best wicketkeeper batters in world cricket, who played before World War II. The South African was one of the earliest wicket keepers who could also contribute with the bat. Even as a wicketkeeper, he was fine with the gloves and often changed matches with his useful contribution lower down the order.

The South African played most of his career against England, the best team of the time, and also played against teams like New Zealand and Australia. From 1928 to 1935, Cameron was the best wicketkeeper batter in the world along with Leslie Ames. Here are the top three performances of Cameron in International cricket

71 runs, 1 stumping, and 1 catch against England, Old Wanderers, 4th Test, 1931

The match between the two sides ended in a thrilling draw. Batting first, England scored 442 runs, as Cameron inflicted a stumping and took a catch. With the bat, he was dismissed for just two runs in the first innings. He kept well in the second innings and scored an unbeaten 69* and helped South Africa to draw the match. 

93 runs, 2 catches, and stumping against England, Lord’s, 2nd Test, 1935

On a seaming wicket at the Home of Cricket in Lord’s, South Africa batted first and posted 228 runs. Cameron was the pick of the batters, who scored 90 in the first innings. He later caught a catch in the first innings, inflicted a stumping and then took a catch in the second innings and helped his side beat England in their backyard by 157 runs.

96 runs and 2 catches against England, Old Trafford, 4th Test, 1929

England batted first in Manchester and posted 427/7 before declaring their innings. Cameron took two catches behind the stumps and helped his side save their grace. As South Africa dismissed for 130 in the first innings, they were asked to follow-on. South Africa batted better and scored 265, of which Cameron scored 83. England won the match comfortably by an innings and 32 runs.
