Top 3 performances of Gautam Gambhir in ODIs

Gautam Gambhir made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2003 at Dhaka. He played a total of 147 ODI games for India and has made 5238 runs at an average of 39.68. He scored over 3000 runs as an opener in 94 games for India and made eight centuries. Sri Lanka was Gambhir’s most prolific overseas venue, where he scored more runs than in any other country outside India. Overall, Gambhir made 759 runs in 18 games against Sri Lanka and hit two centuries.

Here are the top 3 performances of Gautam Gambhir in ODIs:

1. 97 vs Sri Lanka, Wankhede (2011)

The 97-run knock played by Gambhir in the 2011 World Cup final was arguably his best batting performance. India chased down the target of 275 runs against Sri Lanka in 48.2 overs with six wickets in hand. Gambhir came to the crease after India had lost their first wicket without a run on the board. He missed a well-deserved century by three runs and was dismissed when India needed 51 runs to win. However, his effort ensured that India lifted the ODI World Cup after 28 years.

2. 150* vs Sri Lanka, Eden Gardens (2009)

Gambhir’s best batting efforts came against Sri Lanka in 2009 during the fourth match of the Sri Lanka tour of India. The match was played at the Eden Gardens, and Sri Lanka elected to bat after winning the toss. The visitors scored 315 runs for the loss of six wickets. Gambhir remained unbeaten on 150 runs off 137 deliveries and helped India chase down the target of 316 runs in 48.1 overs with seven wickets in hand. He won the Player of the Match award for his batting performance.

3. 150 vs Sri Lanka, Colombo (2009)

Gambhir scored his first 150-run knock against Sri Lanka in February 2009. It was the fourth game of the five-match series. Gambhir scored 150 runs off 147 deliveries and helped India post 332 runs for the loss of five wickets. He had a partnership of 188 runs for the second with MS Dhoni as India won the match by 67 runs, with Sri Lanka bundled out for 265 runs.
