Top 3 performances of Doug Bollinger in ODIs

Doug Bollinger played a total of 39 ODIs in his international career. Although he did not feature in more 50-over games owing to competition and injuries, Bollinger was quite effective for Australia between 2009 and 2010.

His action in addition to the angle from which bowled often caused problems for the opposition batters. Below are the top three performances of Bollinger in ODIs on his 44th birthday.

1) 5/35 in 7.4 overs vs Pakistan (2009)

Bollinger struck on the third ball of the match to get rid of Salman Butt (2 off 3). After bowling three overs with the new ball, he came back directly in the 36th over and trapped Shoaib Malik (27 off 33) on the second ball of his second spell.

Shahid Afridi (40 off 40) was beaten for pace to become the left-armer’s third victim. The tail was cleaned up by him in the penultimate over of the innings to end up with a five-fer to his name. Australia ended up winning by eight wickets and 34 deliveries to spare.

2) 5/35 in 10 overs vs India (2009)

Bollinger struck twice in his first five overs with the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar (10 off 17) and Yuvraj Singh (6 off 16), as India found themselves struggling at 27/5. Then he struck twice in his sixth over to dismiss MS Dhoni (24 off 77) and Harbhajan Singh (zero off two).

Ravindra Jadeja, India’s eventual top-scorer with 57 off 103, turned out to be Bollinger’s fifth wicket as India were bowled out for 170. The Aussies ended up securing a six-wicket win to win their fourth match in the seven-match ODI series.

3) 4/28 in eight overs vs West Indies (2010)

Bollinger was on target on the very first ball of the match to pin Chris Gayle in front for a golden duck. He had picked up a couple of more wickets by the time he was done with his fourth over.

He was brought onto bowl in the 29th over of the innings. Mitchell Johnson settled under an easy catch after Kieron Pollard (32 off 39) was done in with the angle of the ball. Australia chased down the 171-run target with 141 balls remaining.
