2/27 against Sri Lanka, Lord’s, T20 World Cup 2009

Ireland came close to beating the eventual runners-up Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2009. Bowling first, Ireland restricted Sri Lanka to 144/9 in their 20 overs as Rankin claimed 2/27 in his four overs, which included the wickets of the leading run-scorer of the tournament, Tillakaratne Dilshan, and Nuwan Kulasekara. However, Ireland lost the match by just nine runs.

2/25 against England, Guyana, T20 World Cup 2010

Much like the T20 World Cup 2009, Ireland delivered a good performance against a strong side like England in the following edition in 2010. bowled extremely well in Guyana and restricted England them for 120/8. Rankin claimed the wickets of Luke Wright and Tim Bresnan, finishing with figures of 2/25. The match ended without a result due to rain.

3/32 against Pakistan, Sabina Park, ODI World Cup 2007

The match witnessed Ireland knocking Pakistan out of the tournament. Rankin played a key part, as he claimed 3/32 in his spell of nine overs, including a maiden. He dismissed the likes of Younis Khan, Kamran Akmal, and Azhar Mahmood. Ireland won by three wickets and registered one of their biggest wins.
