Bishan Sing Bedi was praised as one of cricket’s greatest left-arm spinners. Bedi was born on September 25, 1946, and played in 67 Test matches for India, taking 266 wickets.

1. 7/98 vs Australia, 1969

These were Bishan Singh Bedi’s best-ever bowling figures in Test cricket and came against Australia in the Kolkata Test in 1969. India was bowled out for 212, with Graham McKenzie taking 6/67. In response, Australia got out for 335, with Bedi taking 7/98. Ian Chappell (99) and Doug Walters (56) were the best scorers. India made 161 in the second innings, and Australia won the test easily by 10 wickets, chasing down 42 runs with ease.

2. 6/42 vs New Zealand, 1969

This test between India and New Zealand was played in Brabourne in September 1969. India made 156 in the first innings, and New Zealand were limited to 229 thanks to four wickets from Erapalli Prasanna. India responded by scoring 260 in the second innings, with Tiger Pataudi scoring 67. Set 188 to win, New Zealand were blown out for 127 runs. Bedi outfoxed the Kiwis with 6/27 with his guile and flight.

3. 6/71 vs. England, 1977

This performance came in the final years of Bedi’s international career. India met England in the fourth Test in Bengaluru and scored 253 with fifties by Surinder Amarnath and Syed Kirmani. England replied with 195, with Dennis Amiss scoring 82 and B. Chandrasekhar taking 6/76. In the second innings, India declared on 259/9 with Sunil Gavaskar and G. Viswanath scoring fifties. Set 318 runs to win, Alan Knott made 81*, but Bishan Bedi outfoxed the other batters, taking 6/71 and winning India the match by 140 runs.
