Top 3 performances of Abdul Razzaq in Tests

Top 3 performances of Abdul Razzaq in Tests

Abdul Razzaq, the ace Pakistan all-rounder, was born on this day, December 2, in 1979. He was from Shahdara Bagh, a suburb on the outskirts of Lahore, Punjab. Razzaq was fast-tracked into the Pakistan team in 1996, making his ODI debut against Zimbabwe. He made his Test debut in 1999 against Australia.

Overall, Abdul Razzaq made 1946 runs at an average of 28.61 and took 100 wickets in 46 Tests, including three centuries and seven fifties, including the best score of 134. He took one Test hat-trick at the age of 20 against Sri Lanka.

Here are the top 3 performances of Abdul Razzaq in tests:

3. 100* vs England, Faisalabad, 2000

Pakistan and England faced off in the second Test in Faisalabad in 2000. Pakistan made 316 in the first innings, and England replied with 342 runs, with Razzaq taking 3/74. In the second innings, Pakistan made 269/3d, with Razzaq smashing 100* in 225 balls with 12 fours.

The knock put Pakistan in a situation where they dictated terms. Razzaq showed that he was capable enough to bat in the top order at no. 3 in Tests and showcased his ability to play out the opposition bowlers, as opposed to his slam-bang approach in ODIs.

2. 110 vs Bangladesh, Multan, 2001

Pakistan and Bangladesh clashed in the first match of the 2001 Asian Test Championship in Multan. Bangladesh made 134 runs in the first innings, with Danish Kaneria taking 6/42. Pakistan hammered the Bangladesh bowling, scoring 546/3d, with Saeed Anwar making 101 and Taufeeq Umar making 104, adding 168 runs for the first wicket.

Bangladesh’s misery was further compounded when Inzamam Ul Haq made 105, Mohammad Yousuf smashed 102*, and Razzaq reeled off 110* in 100 balls with 16 fours and two sixes. Danish Kaneria picked 6/52 in the second innings, as Bangladesh was bowled out for 148 and lost the Test by an innings and 264 runs.

1. 134 vs Bangladesh, Dhaka, 2002

Bangladesh and Pakistan clashed in the first Test of the series in 2002 in Dhaka. Bangladesh made 160 in the first innings, with Waqar Younis taking 6/55 and Razzaq taking two wickets. Pakistan had to reply big and made 490/9d. Openers Taufeeq Umar and Shadab Kabir made fifties, Mohammad Yousuf made 72, and Rashid Latif made 94 runs.

But the knock of the innings came from Abdul Razzaq, who made 134 with 17 fours and four sixes as Pakistan put up a mountain of runs. Razzaq then added two more wickets to his kitty as Bangladesh was bowled out for 152 in the second innings, with Danish Kaneria taking 7/77, and Pakistan won by an innings and 178 runs.
