Pakistan won the match by 72 runs and lifted the trophy. Aaqib won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance. His 7/37 remained the best bowling figure against India for nine years.

2. 5/35 vs Sri Lanka at Gwalior, 1997

Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand played the Independence Cup in 1997 – the same series where Saeed Anwar scored 194 runs against India. In the second match of the tournament, Pakistan faced Sri Lanka, and Aaqib took five wickets for 35 runs as Pakistan won the match by 30 runs after posting a total of 289/6.

3. 5/19 vs India at Sharjah, 1995

Aaqib is the only Pakistani bowler who has taken multiple five-wicket hauls against India in ODIs. In the third match of the Asia Cup 1995 against India, Aaqib picked five wickets for 19 runs. India were chasing a target of 267 runs and were bundled out for 169 runs.
