Top 3 highest scores by no. 11 batters in ODIs

Cricket is gradually becoming a batter’s game, and batters lower down the order must elevate their game to stay up to the game’s standards. One of the biggest uncertainties in cricket is a number 11 batter stepping out to bat and suddenly thrashing the opposition bowlers. We’ve seen several situations where the number 11 batsman has teamed up with his partner to frustrate the opposition.

While most of them had little effect on the game’s outcome, they did have an impact on the fans’ excitement. In this article, we will look at some of the highest scores by a number 11 batsman in ODI history.

South Africa visited New Zealand for a six-match ODI  series. The visitors intended to complete the tour on a good note after the hosts had already won the series 4-1. South Africa’s batting performance was atrocious, leaving them at 119 for 9. The last guy Makhaya Ntini then joined Albie Morkel. In a stunning 35-ball 42-run performance, he took on the bowlers, hitting three boundaries and two sixes. He was unbeaten on 42, while Albie Morkel was undefeated on 23 as South Africa compiled a below-par 186 for 9 in 50 overs.

#2 Shoaib Akhtar – 43 off 16

When Pakistan met England in the 2003 World Cup, one of the best innings by a number 11 batsman occurred. Pakistan, chasing 247, never looked like being in the hunt and were reeling at 80 for 9 when Shoaib Akhtar strolled in to join Saqlain Mushtaq. With the game well out of reach for Pakistan, Akhtar decided to fling his bat about, and he was effective. He smashed 5 fours and three massive sixes and raced to 43 off 16 balls before being dismissed by Flintoff.

#1 Mohammad Amir – 58 off 28

Mohammad Amir

Chasing a gigantic goal of 445 set by England in 2016, Pakistan collapsed to 199 for 9 and were on their way to a tremendous disastrous defeat. Mohammad Amir entered and began tossing the ball to all corners of the field. He soon hit fifty, becoming the only player in history to do so in his position. Woakes ended Amir’s innings with a simple return catch, dismissing him for 58 runs off 28 balls.
