The two teams have played a total of 44 Test matches against each other so far. India have won 16 games, while South Africa has been victorious on 18 occasions.

India have toured South Africa to play a total of nine Test series but have never won a series. South Africa have played a total of seven Test series in India, and the latter have won four out of these seven, while South Africa have won one, with the remaining two ending in a draw.

South Africa are scheduled to travel to India to play a two-match Test series in November. The first match will be played in Kolkata, while the second game will be played in Guwahati.

Amla remained unbeaten on 253 runs, while Kallis made 173 runs as South Africa declared their first innings on 558 runs for the loss of six wickets. It is the fourth-highest partnership for South Africa for the third wicket.

2. 317 runs – 1st wicket (Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal), Visakhapatnam, 2019

India defeated South Africa in all three Test matches during the 2019 home series. The first Test match was played at Visakhapatnam, where Rohit Sharma opened the innings for India in Test matches for the first time. He had a partnership of 317 runs for the first wicket.

Rohit made 176 runs, while Mayank scored 215 runs as India declared their innings on 502 runs for the loss of seven wickets. South Africa made 431 runs in their first innings before Rohit scored another century in the second innings as India won the match by 203 runs. He became the first Indian opener to score centuries in both Innings of a Test match in over 40 years.

3. 68 runs – 2nd wicket (Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid), Chennai, 2008

In 2008, India hosted South Africa for a three-match Test series. The series ended in a draw. The first Test was played in Chennai, where South Africa elected to bat after winning the toss and posted 540 runs on the board in the first innings even as Harbhajan Singh took five wickets.

This was the same game where Virender Sehwag made a triple-century. He was involved in a record 268-run partnership for the second wicket along with Rahul Dravid. Sehwag won the Player of the Match award. .
