Top 3 Greatest Run Chases in IPL History

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has consistently delivered high-octane encounters, but few spectacles match the thrill of a successful run chase. In a format where pressure mounts with every ball, chasing down massive totals requires not only power-hitting but also composure and smart game awareness. Over the years, several teams have pulled off remarkable chases, redefining what is possible in T20 cricket.

Here are the top three chases in tournament history:

265 – PBKS vs DC, 2026

The highest chase in the tournament belongs to Punjab Kings (PBKS), who hunted down a massive 265 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. DC had earlier posted a daunting 264/2, powered by a sensational unbeaten 152 from wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and a blistering 91 from Nitish Rana.

Despite the intimidating target, PBKS approached the chase fearlessly. Prabhsimran Singh provided a fiery start with 76 off just 26 balls, setting the tone early. The chase was then anchored by captain Shreyas Iyer, who remained unbeaten on 71 off 36 deliveries, guiding his side to victory in just 18.5 overs.

The second-highest chase also features PBKS, this time against the three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2024 season at Eden Gardens. Kolkata had piled up 261/6 in their innings, thanks to explosive knocks from Phil Salt, who scored 75 off 37 balls, and Sunil Narine, who hammered 71 off 32.

In response, PBKS delivered a collective batting masterclass. Wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh once again played a key role with a quickfire 54, while Shashank Singh added a crucial 68 off 28 balls. However, it was England veteran Jonny Bairstow who stole the show with a breathtaking unbeaten 108 off 48 balls, leading his team to the target in 18.4 overs.

246 – SRH vs PBKS, 2025

The third-highest successful chase came in 2025, when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) chased down 246 against PBKS. Batting first, PBKS had scored 245/6, with captain Shreyas Iyer contributing a rapid 82 off 36 balls. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad responded with an equally dominant performance.

SRH opener Travis Head set the platform with a brisk 66, but the standout performer was left-handed batter Abhishek Sharma, who delivered a phenomenal 141 off 55 balls. His innings, filled with powerful strokes and fearless intent, ensured the chase was completed in just 18.3 overs.
