The Indian skipper has arguably been the best batter for India in Test cricket in the last few years. Rohit Sharma has been a dominating force, particularly in Indian conditions. Interestingly, a lot of Indian players have also struggled to perform on spinning tracks but the Indian skipper has stood apart from others in this aspect. His record in home conditions is phenomenal which also makes him a contender to win the Player of the Match award in the first Test.

2. Joe Root

The former English captain has enjoyed batting in India, unlike many other English batters. His past performances in India have been remarkable and Root has troubled the Indian bowlers in their own backyard. He has played 10 Test matches in these conditions scoring 952 runs at a notable average of 50.10.

In the first Test of the last series between the two sides in India, Root smashed a double-century and the English fans would want a similar performance from their star batter in the first match of this series as well.

3. Ravichandran Ashwin

The veteran Indian off-spinner will lead the Indian bowling attack in this series against England. Ravichandran Ashwin is also chasing the 500-wicket mark which will make him only the second Indian to achieve that milestone. He is a force to reckon with on Indian pitches and the English batters have not had a great time facing him. The 37-year-old will be a big threat factor for England in the first Test
