On February 17, 2001, Shoaib picked his first five-wicket haul in ODIs. The performance came against New Zealand during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand. Shoaib bowled 6.3 overs in the match and gave away 19 runs. He won his third Player of the Match award in ODIs in the said game.
3. 5 wickets for 25 runs vs Australia (Brisbane, 2002)

Shoaib delivered one of his best performances in the format in Pakistan’s tour of Australia in 2002. His five-wicket haul helped Pakistan win the three-match series by 2-1. It was the first time Pakistan toured Australia to play a bilateral ODI series. Shoaib picked five wickets for 25 runs and won the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series award for his performance. He finished the series with seven wickets at an average of 7.85. It is still the best bowling performance by a Pakistani bowler in an ODI game in Australia.
