There have been many great fast bowlers in the England Women’s team who have achieved some great feats in all the formats of the game. One of the most iconic pacers from the England team is Katherine Sciver Brunt. Brunt is one of the legendary pacers in England cricket who has been a part of two ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup wins. She is regarded as one of the greatest pacers in England cricket known for her ability to swing the ball both ways and take wickets.
There have been a lot of great moments in Brunt’s career where she has taken 335 international wickets from her 267 games and there is no doubt she has a brilliant record in white ball cricket. However, we cannot forget her prowess with the red ball where she has a great record as well taking 51 wickets from just 14 Tests. She has had some great moments in this format which we will be talking about.
So, here are the top 3 bowling performances from the great pacer in Test matches:
3. 7/133 vs Australia Women (2009)
This was one of Katherine Brunt’s best performances where she displayed why she could be a threat in Test cricket. Brunt showed her class by taking a 6-fer and restricting the Aussies to just 309 in the 1st innings. Though the second innings could not prove to be that eventful where the star pacer could only take 1 wicket, she still kept England Women in the game which eventually ended in a draw.
2. 8/117 vs Australia Women (2022)
This Women’s Ashes Test match in Canberra might be known for the heroics of Heather Knight who saved the match for England in the end, but we surely can’t forget the performance of Brunt in the encounter as well. Even though Australia’s women did manage a decent score, Brunt still made things tough for them by taking a 5-wicket haul in the first innings. Not only that but she also took three wickets in the second innings as well. This was another great performance from Brunt which should be appreciated.
1. 9/111 vs Australia Women (2005)
This was the early days of the women’s Test and was also perhaps the best performance by the English pacer in this format. Brunt wreaked havoc on the Aussie lineup and took a magnificent 5-wicket haul in the first innings where the Aussies were bowled out for just 131. This was not enough as she went on to take another 4 wickets in the second innings taking 9 wickets in the entire. This was not only a great performance with the ball, but she got runs with the bat as well. This was comfortably the best performance by the pacer which resulted in a big win for England by 6-wickets. She truly deserved the player of the match in this game at Worcester.
