Top 3 bowling performances of Farveez Maharoof in ODIs

Farveez Maharoof, Sri Lanka’s former professional cricketer, who played in both Tests and ODIs, did well in his career. He was a brilliant bowler who made his Test debut in 2004. He has also been a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL)’s inaugural season and claimed 15 wickets. He was the ninth-highest wicket-taker of the tournament and earned a lot of fame from it. He was a good batter as well and saved Sri Lanka during a crisis. He was a hard hitter and had nothing to do with the techniques. Most of his techniques were related to bowling. In ODIs, he has played 109 matches and taken 135 wickets.

1. 6 wickets vs West Indies

Against West Indies in 2006, Maharoof claimed a six-wicket haul and conceded just 14 runs. He destroyed the West Indies batting order as they were all out for just 80 runs in an ODI match. Sri Lanka went on to win the game by nine wickets due to their top-order batters. Even though Upal Tharanga was dismissed in the first ball, Sananth Jayasuriya and skipper Mahela Jayawardene saved the game.

2. 5 wickets vs India

In 10 overs against India, Maharoof claimed a fifer and gave away just 42 runs. He also bowled one maiden over and kept the Indian batters under check. He didn’t allow anyone to play confidently, so India could only score 209 runs. Sri Lanka won the game by seven wickets, and Maharoof was given the Player of the Match award. 

3. 4 wickets vs India

In the match against India, Maharoof only got five overs to bowl, claiming four wickets and conceding just 20 runs. He was the best bowler in the match. Sri Lanka chased down a score of 286 runs and won the game by five wickets. Even though Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid scored centuries, they couldn’t stop India from losing the match.
