Top 3 bowlers to watch out for in India vs West Indies T20I series 2026

Top 3 bowlers to watch out for in India vs West Indies T20I series 2026

India and West Indies are set to lock horns in a five-match T20I series, with the opening game scheduled to take place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on October 6. The series will be an important opportunity for both teams to assess their combinations and build momentum for the next phase of the T20I cycle.

India will be led by Shreyas Iyer and have several exciting bowling options in their squad, including Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi and Prince Yadav. Washington Sundar was initially selected but has subsequently been withdrawn to prepare for the upcoming Test assignment, with Naman Dhir named as his replacement.

West Indies, meanwhile, have plenty of variety in their attack, with Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph, Matthew Forde, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer among their options.

Here are 3 bowlers to watch out for in IND vs WI T20I series:

1. Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh is likely to be one of India’s most important bowlers during the five-match series. The left-arm pacer has become a regular feature of India’s T20I setup and brings considerable experience in handling both the new ball and the death overs.

One of Arshdeep’s biggest strengths is his ability to swing the ball early before using variations later in the innings. His yorkers and slower deliveries make him particularly useful during the final overs, when West Indies’ power hitters are likely to launch an all-out attack.

The West Indies batting unit contains aggressive players such as Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Shimron Hetmyer and Romario Shepherd. Arshdeep’s ability to bowl under pressure could therefore prove crucial whenever these batters attempt to accelerate.

There is also a statistical reason to keep an eye on him. According to the ICC’s head-to-head data, Arshdeep has already taken 14 wickets against West Indies in T20Is, including best figures of 3/12.

With India’s attack containing several spin options, Arshdeep could also be entrusted with the responsibility of providing early breakthroughs and closing out innings.

2. Mayank Yadav

Mayank Yadav could be one of the most exciting players to watch throughout the series.

The express pacer has generated significant attention because of his ability to bowl at extreme pace. His raw speed provides India with a weapon that can unsettle batters even on surfaces that do not offer significant assistance to fast bowlers.

Mayank’s inclusion is particularly interesting because West Indies possess several powerful hitters. Batters such as Powell, Rutherford and Hetmyer are accustomed to attacking pace, but consistently facing deliveries at Mayank’s speed could present a completely different challenge.

The key for Mayank will be maintaining accuracy. Pace alone cannot guarantee wickets in T20 cricket, particularly against an experienced batting lineup. If he can combine his speed with a consistent line and length, he could become a major threat during the powerplay and middle overs.

His availability also gives captain Shreyas Iyer the option of using him as an attacking bowler rather than simply deploying him as a containment option. The five-match series should provide Mayank with valuable opportunities to strengthen his position in India’s T20I plans.

3. Gudakesh Motie

Gudakesh Motie is arguably one of the most important bowlers in the West Indies attack. The left-arm spinner has established himself as a reliable option in the shortest format and could play a major role against India’s aggressive batting lineup.

Motie’s ability to bowl economically while changing his pace and trajectory makes him particularly useful during the powerplay and middle overs. India’s batting order contains several left-handers, including Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan, which could make Motie’s matchup strategy particularly interesting.

Against a batter like Abhishek, who prefers to attack from the beginning, Motie will need to maintain excellent control and avoid giving him deliveries in his preferred hitting zones.

The spinner could also be crucial in the middle overs when India look to accelerate after the powerplay. If Motie can pick up wickets during this phase, West Indies could significantly disrupt India’s batting momentum.

With Akeal Hosein also available, West Indies have a strong left-arm spin combination that could be used strategically across different phases of the innings.
