Top 3 batting performances of Jason Roy in T20Is

Jason Roy has played a total of 64 T20Is up until now. He is well-known for his fearless stroke play and audacious power-hitting. Roy has been out of contention from England’s white-ball squads since a while.

However, that does not mean that the top-order batter is not capable of staging a resurgence if called upon by the selectors. As he turns 35 on July 21, listed below are his top three batting performances in T20Is up until now:

1) 78 off 44 vs New Zealand (2016)

Roy set the tone for the chase in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2016 early with a flying start by stroking four boundaries of the opening over. He brought up his maiden T20I fifty on the first ball after the powerplay.

His bold innings came to an end on the first ball of the 13th over. Aiming to club the ball for the third six of his innings, Roy ended up missing a straight delivery to get bowled. However, England claimed an easy seven-wicket win with Roy obtaining the Player of The Match award.

2) 69 off 36 vs Sri Lanka (2018)

Roy got going straightaway in the only T20I to be played in England’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2018. He did not to give up on his fast-scoring approach despite the fall of a few wickets around him.

Roy made full use of the dropped opportunities by the Lankans to bring up his fifty in 30 balls. He fell on the final ball of the 11th over after thumping two back-to-back maximums off Lakshan Sandakan. England eventually won by 30 runs.

3) 67 off 31 vs India (2018)

Roy hit the ground running with a couple of fours and a maximum off Umesh Yadav. He plundered 21 runs off Hardik Pandya’s over, the final one of the powerplay. A few moments later, he got to his fifty in 23 balls.

Roy’s dashing knock came to an end sooner than he would have liked. He smashed four fours and seven sixes in an entertaining piece of batting display. He was the only batter (having faced a minimum of 15 balls) across both teams who struck at over 200.
