Graham Gooch is regarded as one of the most successful batters in Test cricket. He made his Test debut in 1975 against Australia in Birmingham and played his last Test in February 1995 against Australia. Gooch played in 118 Test matches for England and scored 8900 runs at an average of 42.58. He is one of the six English batters who scored a triple-century in Test cricket.

1. 333 runs vs India at Lord’s, 1990

The year 1990 was the best for Gooch with the bat. He scored over 1000 runs for the first time in a single calendar year for the first time that year. In the first Test of India’s tour of England, Gooch scored his first and the only triple-century in Test cricket. In the second innings, Gooch made 123 runs, and he finished with 456 runs in the match. He became the first cricketer to score a triple-century and followed that with a century in a Test match. Gooch won the Player of the Match award for this performance.

2. 210 runs vs New Zealand at Nottingham, 1994

During the New Zealand tour of England, Gooch scored his last Test century in the first Test at Nottingham. He made 210 runs off 317 deliveries and helped England declare their innings on 567 runs in the first innings. England won the match by an innings and 90 runs. Gooch won the Player of the Match award, and it was his last award in his Test career.

3. 196 runs vs Australia at The Oval, 1985

During the sixth Test match of the Australia tour of England, Gooch missed a well-deserved double-century as he was dismissed for 196 runs off 310 deliveries. He added 351 runs for the second wicket along with David Gower. It is still the third-highest partnership in Test matches for the second wicket for England.
