Three reasons why DC lost against GT in IPL 2025 clash

Three reasons why DC lost against GT in IPL 2025 clash

Gujarat Titans, led by skipper Shubman Gill, hosted Delhi Capitals on Saturday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a game between the two sides who are sitting at the top of the points table of the IPL 2025 season. In the end, it was the Titans who came out on top with a seven-wicket win with four balls left to spare, thanks to Jos Buttler’s 97 not out.

Shubman Gill had won the toss and chose to bowl first, and Delhi posted 203 runs on the board. Axar Patel had been leading the batting charts with 39 while Ashutosh Sharma scored 37, Karun Nair and Tristan Stubbs scored 31 runs for the Delhi side. Abhishek Porel with a quick 18 runs off just nine balls with three fours and a six.

In reply to this, the Titans lost Gill with a run out for seven runs. Sai Sudharsan scored 36 off just 21 balls to help GT get their chase in order. Jos Buttler and Sudharsan then added 60 runs for the second in quick time. Once the young Indian batter was out in the eighth over, it was Sherfane Rutherford who came out and smashed his way to 43 to helping GT secure the win. Buttler scored his 97 off 54 balls while Rahul Tewatia hit 11 off 3 balls to seal the game.

Here are the 3 reasons behind DC’s loss to GT

3. None of the batters made their start count

After Porel fell in the second over, Karun Nair and KL Rahul took charge and went after the GT bowlers. Nair was out for 31, caught by Arshad Khan off Prasidh Krishna, while KL Rahul fell for 28 just as he was looking set. The DC batters ‘ ability to get big runs on the board implied that they were perhaps 15-20 runs short.

2.Axar Patel’s lack of form with the ball

Delhi skipper Axar Patel has been at the top of his game. It is his bowling which has been a huge cause of concern for Delhi in the current season. In the previous game, the 31-year-old bowled just two overs and was hit for 18 runs. Patel has been one of the most consistent wicket takers in the IPL. Lack of wickets in the last hurt DC’s chances of winning against the Gujarat Titans.

1. No support for Mitchell Starc

Australian seamer Mitchell Starc has been the most lethal bowler for Delhi this season. The likes of Mukesh Kumar and Mohit Sharma, though, haven’t been able to provide the perfect backup to Starc in the last few matches. Mukesh got the wicket of Rutherford in the dying moments of the game, but was hit for 40 from his four overs. Mohit Sharma bowled two overs and was hit for 28 in what was his home ground for a few seasons. This has been a huge reason of worry for DC, considering that they also have the likes of Dushmanta Chameera and T Natarajan sitting in the dugout.
