The Hundred Men’s 2025: Predicting Manchester Originals XI for match 5

Manchester Originals will clash with Oval Invincibles in the fifth match of the ongoing The Hundred Men’s 2025 competition at the Oval on August 9.

In their first match of this season, Manchester Originals lost a close contest to Southern Brave by just one wicket. This was not a good start for the Originals, who finished eighth in the standings after winning only one game in the group stages in the last edition of The Hundred. But in the upcoming match, they have a chance to bounce back and put points on the board.

Here is the predicted Manchester Originals XI for match 5 of The Hundred Men’s 2025:

Top Order: Phil Salt (C), Matty Hurst, Jos Buttler (WK)

Phil Salt carried his form from the previous The Hundred season, when he had made 228 runs. He stroked 60 runs in this season’s first match with four fours and two sixes. He will hope to give such starts regularly. Jos Buttler made 22, while Matty Hurst failed to impress with two runs. But Hurst has a strike rate of 158.94 in The Hundred, something his team requires.

Middle Order: Heinrich Klaasen, Mark Chapman, Lewis Gregory

Surprisingly Heinrich Klaasen struggled to score even one run a ball, but given his status in shorter formats, expect some big knocks from him. Mark Chapman surprised with two sixes in his 22 not out, and he will form the core of Originals’ middle order. Lewis Gregory also struggled to get the bat on the ball in the final few deliveries and might be replaced if he fails to perform again.

Lower Order: Scott Currie, Noor Ahmad

Scott Currie was the star of Originals bowling with 4/28 in his 20 balls and cleaned the Brave’s middle order and is a vital piece of the XI. Noor Ahmad bowled 20 balls and took two wickets with his left-arm wrist spin in an impressive performance.

Bowlers: Farhan Ahmed, James Anderson, Sonny Baker

Farhan Ahmed did not do much, bowling only five balls and giving eight runs, but given that this is early in the tournament, he might be persisted with. James Anderson played his first shorter-format match in some time and was carted for 36 runs in his 20 balls. He might take some time to get used to this format. Sonny Baker took 2/26 in his 20 balls and was impressive.
