This initiative would not have been possible without the striking efforts of stars like Kiran Baluch. Born on 22nd February 1978, Kiran Baluch, played a pivotal role in bringing significant change to the Pakistan Cricket spectrum. Along with Shaiza Khan and Late Sharmeen, Kiran Baluch assisted the Pakistan Women’s Cricket team in qualifying for the 1997 World Cup and also played Test matches against the West Indies in 2004. 

Baluch holds the record of being the player with the highest individual scores in Women’s Test cricket. During the Karachi Test in 2004, Baluch scored 242 and made it to the top of the list of scoring the most Test runs followed by Mithali Raj in second place and Ellyse Perry in third. Looking through Kiran’s past, it is evident that she was a born athlete. She began playing cricket at a very young age. Besides this, she was mostly inclined towards Basketball and Badminton. Kiran’s father was a cricketer himself, giving her the push to pursue cricket as a career. 

In the year 1966, Shaiza Khan, who headed the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Association, had been looking for players to form a team for the Australia and New Zealand tour. This is when Khan approached the star cricketer to join the team. By then Baluch was not well-acquainted with the nuances of the national team. In January 1997, Baluch first represented the country in the ODI match, which was played against New Zealand. 

In an interview conducted by Scoreline, when asked about her reason to leave the national team, Kiran Baluch said, she left the game because of the ill-treatment done to women cricketers by the Pakistan Cricket Board. She said that it was ‘degrading and disrespectful’. Citing rising biases and nepotism, Baluch bid adieu to her love for the game.
