T20 World Cup 2026: 3 Zimbabwe players to watch for in ZIM vs SA

Zimbabwe takes on South Africa in what is effectively a dead rubber in the Super 8 stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, March 1. With the Proteas already sealing their place in the semi-finals and Zimbabwe officially eliminated after back-to-back defeats, the result will have no bearing on qualification from Group 1.

South Africa has been the best team of the tournament so far, remaining unbeaten ahead of the knockouts. The Aiden Markram-led team will look to continue their record and fine-tune combinations before the semi-final clash.

For Zimbabwe, captained by Sikandar Raza, this match is an opportunity to bow out with pride. Despite a fighting campaign in the group stage, their struggles in Indian conditions ended their hopes. A strong performance against one of the tournament favourites would give them a clinical end and a confidence boost for the future.

Here are three Zimbabwean players to watch out for in Match No.51 of the T20 World Cup 2026:

Brad Evans

Brad Evans

Brad Evans has played a crucial hand in Zimbabwe’s T20 World Cup campaign and will be looking to finish on a strong note. Though Zimbabwe are out of semifinal contention, Evans remains important to their hopes of signing off with a win.

He impressed earlier in the tournament with figures of 3/18 against Oman and 3/23 against Australia, showcasing his ability to pick wickets with the new ball and at the death. However, in the Super Eight stage, conditions at Wankhede and Chepauk did not favour his slower-ball variations, with deliveries skidding onto the bat and making him expensive. Despite the setbacks, Evans contributed 43 with the bat against the West Indies in a losing cause.

Brian Bennett

Opener Brian Bennett has been Zimbabwe’s best batter in this T20 World Cup. In five innings, he has been dismissed just once, a historic feat in a tournament like the World Cup. Coming off an unbeaten 97 against India, Bennett put in a great fight against the host’s decorated bowling attack. Chasing 256-run target, he battled till the very end. Though he could not take Zimbabwe over the line, his knock earned admiration.

Currently among the leading run-scorers in the tournament, Bennett has powered Zimbabwe into the Super Eight and scored consistently. In five innings he has scored 277 runs at an average of 277.00 and a strike rate of 135.78.

Blessing Muzarabani

Another Zimbabwean who has made a major impact in this tournament is Blessing Muzarabani. The tall, fast bowler has led the attack brilliantly and consistently troubled batters. His best performance came against Australia, where he produced a 4/17, dismantling the top order. He followed that with figures of 3/16 against Oman and 2/38 versus Sri Lanka.

Even in tough outings against West Indies and India, Muzarabani continued to pick wickets. His ability to generate bounce, maintain his length, and force errors has made him Zimbabwe’s go-to bowler in pressure moments.

Zimbabwe squad for T20 World Cup 2026:

Tadiwanashe Marumani(w), Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, Ryan Burl, Sikandar Raza(c), Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa, Brad Evans, Graeme Cremer, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Ben Curran, Clive Madande, Tinotenda Maposa, Wellington Masakadza.
