T20 World Cup 2026: 3 Scotland bowlers to watch out for

Scotland secured a last-minute entry into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after replacing Bangladesh, but the late qualification has not dampened their ambitions. With a rapidly assembled yet experienced squad, Scotland will be eager to make a strong impression in the 20-team tournament and push for qualification beyond the first round.

For that to happen, their bowling attack will play a decisive role, especially against higher-ranked opponents. Scotland possess a balanced bowling unit with variety in pace and spin.

Here are three Scotland bowlers who could shine at the T20 World Cup 2026:

Brad Currie

Brad Currie

Left-arm seamer Brad Currie has emerged as one of Scotland’s most exciting bowling prospects in recent years. He made a dream start to his first-class career with Sussex, debuting at Lord’s and quickly catching attention with his control and movement. Currie made his international debut for Scotland at the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in 2023 and delivered an unforgettable performance against Ireland, claiming remarkable figures of 5 for 13.

That spell proved instrumental in securing Scotland’s qualification for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA. In just 18 T20Is, Currie has already taken 28 wickets at an outstanding average of 12.57.

Safyaan Sharif

Safyaan Sharif has been a cornerstone of Scotland’s bowling lineup for over a decade. He made his debut at the age of 20 following impressive performances for Dunfermline and Scotland’s Under-19 side. Sharif played a vital role in Scotland’s successful World Cup Qualifier campaign in New Zealand in 2014, picking up 14 wickets at an average of 23.92.

In 75 T20Is, Sharif has claimed 85 wickets at an economy rate of 8.06, including two four-wicket hauls. His experience and ability to bowl in all phases of the innings make him an invaluable asset for Scotland in pressure situations.

Mark Watt

Left-arm spinner Mark Watt has been one of Scotland’s most reliable performers in white-ball cricket. After a quiet international debut in 2015, Watt truly announced himself in 2017 by taking five wickets against the Netherlands in a T20I in Dubai. He continued his impact in the UAE during the T20 World Cup Qualifier, where his 12 wickets helped Scotland qualify for the 2021 edition.

In 77 T20Is, Watt has taken 89 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.98, including two four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul. His accuracy will be crucial on spin-friendly surfaces during the 2026 World Cup.
