T20 World Cup 2026: 3 Netherlands bowlers to watch out for

The Netherlands head into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with renewed confidence and ambition, aiming to improve on their previous performances at the global event.

They secured qualification through the T20 World Cup European Qualifier on the back of disciplined and impactful bowling displays, a department that has long been one of their strengths. As they prepare to compete against strong opposition, the Dutch bowling attack will be central to their hopes of making a deep run in the tournament.

Here are three Netherlands bowlers to watch out for at the T20 World Cup 2026:

1. Paul van Meekeren

Paul van Meekeren has been a key figure in the Netherlands’ pace attack for several years. He first caught global attention during the 2016 World T20 qualifiers with a stunning spell of 4 for 11 against Ireland.

Since then, Van Meekeren has built a reputation as a reliable fast bowler, impressing in county cricket with Somerset in both T20 and List A formats, as well as in the T20 Blast. In 77 T20Is, van Meekeren has taken 84 wickets at an average of 21.55 and an economy rate of 7.10, including two four-wicket hauls.

2. Logan van Beek

Logan van Beek is widely remembered for his match-winning heroics that helped deny West Indies a place at the 2023 ODI World Cup, and he remains a crucial part of the Dutch bowling unit. He started his career in New Zealand and found his niche representing the Netherlands, bringing pace and aggression.

Although his international debut at the 2014 T20 World Cup was modest, Van Beek has grown into a dependable performer. In 31 T20Is, he has picked up 36 wickets at an impressive average of 19.38 and an economy rate of 7.50, including a four-wicket haul.

3. Roelof van der Merwe

Left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe brings vast experience and control to the Netherlands attack. One of the few players to represent two international teams, Van der Merwe previously played for South Africa before becoming a mainstay for the Dutch. He made a memorable T20I debut in 2009 against Australia, scoring a quickfire 48 and taking 1 for 30 to earn Player of the Match honours.

In 67 T20Is for the Netherlands, van der Merwe has taken 74 wickets at an average of 18.85 and an economy rate of 6.51. His accuracy and variations could be particularly effective on subcontinental pitches in India and Sri Lanka.
