T20 World Cup 2026: 3 Indian players to watch for in IND vs NZ

The final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will see India take on New Zealand on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India had a dominant start to the tournament, finishing the group stage unbeaten. The Men in Blue registered convincing victories over the USA, Namibia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands to enter the Super Eight stage with strong momentum. However, their first Super Eight match brought a setback as they suffered a defeat against South Africa. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side responded strongly to that loss, securing crucial wins over the West Indies and Zimbabwe to seal their place in the semi-finals. In the knockout clash, India produced a thrilling performance to edge past England and book their spot in the final.

New Zealand, on the other hand, had a slightly mixed campaign in the group stage. The Black Caps suffered a loss against South Africa but bounced back with impressive wins over Afghanistan, Canada, and the UAE to qualify for the Super Eight stage. Their first Super Eight match against Pakistan was washed out due to rain, but they managed to defeat Sri Lanka to stay in contention. A loss against England meant that New Zealand had to rely on their superior Net Run Rate to progress to the semi-finals. In the knockout stage, they faced South Africa once again and delivered a strong all-round performance to secure a memorable victory and advance to the final.

Here are the three Indian players to watch out for in T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand:

 Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has once again demonstrated why he is considered one of the finest bowlers in T20 cricket. After being rested for the game against the USA, Bumrah returned to action against Namibia and produced figures of 1/20. He then played a pivotal role in India’s victory over Pakistan, claiming 2/17, before delivering another tidy spell of 1/17 against the Netherlands.

One of his most impressive performances came against South Africa, where he picked up 3/15 while several other bowlers struggled to contain the opposition batters. Although he had a relatively quiet outing against Zimbabwe, Bumrah bounced back strongly against the West Indies, finishing with figures of 2/36 and dismissing key power-hitters. In the semi-final against England, he once again showed his class by delivering a match-defining spell, conceding just 33 runs and picking up a crucial wicket while bowling two outstanding overs at the death to help India seal a narrow victory.

 Hardik Pandya

All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been one of India’s most valuable players in the tournament thanks to his ability to contribute with both bat and ball. Although he had a relatively modest outing against the USA, Pandya made a major impact in the match against Namibia, scoring an important 52 while also picking up two wickets for 21 runs. In the high-pressure encounter against Pakistan, he once again delivered with the ball, finishing with figures of 2/16.

Pandya continued his all-round contributions in the group stage by scoring 30 runs and taking a wicket against the Netherlands. He then produced a strong performance in the Super Eight stage, including an unbeaten half-century against Zimbabwe that showcased his ability to anchor the innings when required. In the semi-final against England, Pandya played a crucial cameo with the bat before delivering a superb penultimate over with the ball, which proved vital in India’s narrow victory and helped secure their place in the final.

He continued his strong form with a fluent 77 against Pakistan, helping India post a competitive total in the high-profile clash.

Although he was dismissed for a duck against South Africa in the Super Eight stage, Kishan quickly bounced back with valuable contributions in the knockout rounds. He scored a quickfire 38 against Zimbabwe and followed it up with a crucial 39 against England in the semi-final. Overall, Kishan has scored 1,274 runs in 44 T20Is at an impressive strike rate of 146.10, including one century and nine half-centuries.
