Stats: Which records could Shubman Gill break at Lord’s?

India captain Shubman Gill is closing in on several world records set by the legendary Sir Donald Bradman, some of which have stood for nearly a century. Gill has already scored 585 runs in the first two Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.

In the second Test at Edgbaston, Gill produced a monumental performance, scoring 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second, totaling 430 runs in the match. This effort shattered multiple records, surpassing Virat Kohli for most runs by an Indian captain in a single innings, breaking Sunil Gavaskar’s record for most runs by an Indian in a Test match, and becoming the first Asian captain to score a double century in SENA countries. He also became the first player in Test history to record both a double century and a 150 in the same match.

With three Tests remaining, Gill is just 225 runs short of surpassing Bradman’s 810 runs as captain in the 1936–37 Ashes, both players achieving these feats in their debut series as Test captains. Bradman had averaged 90 and scored three centuries in that series.

Gill is also chasing Bradman’s all-time record of 974 runs in the 1930 Ashes series, trailing by 390 runs with big opportunities left for him.

Among other milestones, Gill needs 415 runs in his next six innings to break Bradman’s record of being the fastest to 1,000 Test runs as captain, achieved in 11 innings. He is also eyeing Clyde Walcott’s record of five centuries in a single series, having already scored three.

Gill is also nearing Gavaskar’s 732 runs as captain in a series, needing 148 more. He is also just 18 runs away from Rahul Dravid’s 602 runs, the most by an Indian in a Test series in England, and trails Yashasvi Jaiswal’s India-England record of 712 runs by 127. Additionally, he needs 91 runs to surpass Kohli’s 655 runs as Indian captain against England.
