Pakistan clashed with the Netherlands in the group stage and Afridi flattened the opposition with his bowling in the second innings. Chasing 175, the Netherlands got bowled out for 93 runs. Shahid Afridi picked up 4 wickets which helped Pakistan get the edge in the contest. With Afridi’s bowling effort, Pakistan ensured that they got the victory without much fuss.

The 2009 T20 World Cup was a glorious campaign not just for Pakistan but on an individual level it was rewarding for Shahid Afridi as well. He consistently performed throughout the tournament, especially in high-stakes encounters. In the semi-final, Pakistan faced the dangerous Proteas. Batting first, Pakistan got off to a horrible start as they lost a couple of wickets early in the powerplay. But Afridi did not allow South Africa to run away with the game. He smashed a half-century and shifted the momentum in Pakistan’s favour. His knock enabled the team to post 149 runs on the board in the first innings.
