Delhi Capitals qualified for the IPL finals for the first time in 2020. They thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier to make their way to the ultimate fixture of the season. This win is special for Delhi fans as it ensured the place in their first-ever final. Strong batting display in the first innings carried Delhi to 189 runs in the first innings giving them a significant edge in a must-win encounter. Later, the bowling unit joined the party with a clinical display to prevent Sunrisers Hyderabad from completing the run chase. In the end, Delhi Capitals won the match comfortably by 17 runs.

This is one of the most thrilling victories Delhi Capitals ever had in their history. In the 2019 season, Delhi and Kolkata clashed in the group stage and the result of the match was decided in the super-over. Chasing 186 runs in the second innings, Delhi almost did the job but they could not cross the final hurdle to confirm their victory. Both teams played the super over to decide the result, and Delhi came on top in the super over, courtesy of brilliant death bowling from Kagiso Rabada.

Delhi Capitals won another close contest in the last season against the eventual finalists, Gujarat Titans. In the first innings, Delhi’s batting unit failed to accumulate a big score and crumbled under pressure. At the end of the first innings, they only had 130 runs in the account. The bowling attack had to come up with an extraordinary performance to stop the explosive Gujarat batting lineup. A collective bowling effort made the tough task possible for Delhi and the visitors pulled off a memorable victory by 5 runs.
