It is sad that the internal strife and turmoil in Zimbabwe took away the chance to witness the true potential of Hamilton Masakadza in test cricket. Starting out as a young prodigy the right handed batter was the first ever African ethnic player to score a Test century.
That feat was achieved when he made his debut against the West Indies in 2001. From 2005 to 2011, weren’t part of Test cricket and this deprived Masakadza the chance to show his true value in the format at the prime of his cricketing career.
By the time he retired in 2018, Hamilton Masakadza had played a mere 38 Test matches and scored 2223 runs. His average was a mere 30 with five centuries and 8 fifties as well as 16 wickets with the ball with a best of 3/16.

3- 119 vs West Indies –Harare -2001

In his Test debut, Hamilton Masakadza was out for mere 9 runs in his first innings when he was bowled by Colin Stuart. In the second innings with his side having their backs against the wall, Hamilton Masakadza showed the talent he was picked for. The 17-year-old batter scored 119 runs from 316 balls and played a key role in earning his team a draw.
2- 147 vs West Indies – Trinidad and Tobago -2017

Opening the batting for the side, Hamilton Masakadza took the West Indian bowlers apart with his 147 runs. The knock came off 240 balls and the burly batter hit 16 fours and two sixes in his knock to help his side reach 326 and score 45% of the runs. Centuries by Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder and half-century from Kieron Powell helped the home team take a lead of 122 runs. The game ended in a draw as the visiting side scored 301/7 with Masakadza scoring just 5 runs in the second dig.
1- 158 vs Bangladesh – Khulna -2014

Zimbabwe may have lost the game by 162 runs but their fighting spirit was lauded by fans across the world. Batting 1st Bangladesh had posted 423 on the board with centuries by Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal. Zimbabwe responded with 368 all out as Hamilton Masakadza was the star with the bat with 158 runs from 326 balls with 17 fours and 2 sixes. Regis Chakavba was the batter to score a century as the home team got a huge lead. In the 2nd innings, Bangladesh scored 248/9 to give Zimbabwe a target of 314 to win. The visiting side were all out for 151 with Masakadza top scoring with 61 and Shakib Al Hasan picking a fifer.
