Predicting Sri Lanka’s Playing XI for 2nd T20I against West Indies

The first T20I saw the West Indies get the better of the Lankan lions and with just two games left in the T20I series, it will be do or die for Sri Lanka going into the second T20I in Dambulla. Though we did see some glimpses of brilliance by the Srilankan players, It was the Caribbean Giants who got the better of them by chasing down a massive score of 180.

The second game will be at the same venue and Sri Lanka will want to pick the perfect XI for the following match and there is no doubt that they will look to make the most of it in the upcoming encounter. It will be another opportunity for the Island nation to come back and keep the series alive and make sure they get the better of the powerful and expressive West Indian players tomorrow.

So, here is the predicted playing XI of the Sri Lankan team against the West Indies in the 2nd T20I:

Top order-

Kusal Mendis

There is no doubt that Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis will be back in the upcoming match, but with Perera continuously failing at the number 3 spot it might be a chance to get the likes of Dinesh Chandimal in the mix. This will be the solid top three with Chandimal who can play the perfect anchoring role if needed in the Lankan innings and another big opportunity for him.

Middle order-

Charith Asalanka

The middle order was the only thing which worked for Sri Lanka in the last encounter with Kamindu Mendis and Charith Asalanka scoring half-centuries and Bhanuka showing glimpses of his power-hitting ability. These three played a huge role in taking the score when the team was in dire straits and will want to continue doing that tomorrow as well. These three players will have an important role in the team going forward.

Lower middle order-

Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga is one of their top T20 bowlers and he will most likely continue to play in the 2nd game as well, there might only be one change going forward with Dunith Wellalger coming in for Wickramasinghe who did not really impress anyone during the first game at all. It might be time to get Wellalage in with left-arm spinners along with his ability with the bat as well.

Tailenders-

Matheesha Pathirana

Though the bowling attack did not have a great day it does not seem like there will be a lot of changes with tailenders. Matheesha Pathirana has proven to be a reliable bowler and almost got them in the game and Fernando and Theekshana are capable of taking wickets and bowling in the powerplay which will be important for them going into the next match.
