Predicting SMP’s Playing XI for the 23rd Match Against TRI in TNPL 2025

The Siechem Madurai Panthers are ready to play the 23rd match of TNPL 2025, looking to rebound from a substantial loss to IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in their last match. As the tournament gets serious, SMP does not have time to waste and will have to get back on track against the Trichy Grand Cholas in a must-win match. SMP will need a balanced playing XI if they want to make a comeback effort, and based on recent matches, this is our predicted XI for the must-win match.

Openers

Ram Arvindh

Ram Arvindh is a player who deserves another chance at the top, regardless of his outright failure last time around. He had a very rare miss last match and scored just 1 off 3, but that should take nothing away from his electric talent. Arvindh has also shown that he can play pacers in the powerplay, and he will be vital on the batting-friendly Tirunelveli deck.

Arvindh should have Sarath Kumar as his opening partner, and he was SMP’s high scorer last time (batting) with a gutsy 31 off 32. He may not be the overt aggressor, but he does bring a calmness and gets you some singles and twos, When a couple of early wickets fall, what key attributes must your opening batsmen show to establish a platform?

Middle Order

S Ganesh

S Ganesh, who keeps wicket, is certainly a budding prospect in the middle overs. He only managed to score 13 in the last match, but looked calm and composed, and he certainly looked like he could accelerate whenever needed. His fast running between wickets and ability to pick gaps means he can help form a lot of partnerships, especially when the top order is having a stutter. Captain NS Chaturved needs to help the cause with the bat too. His 10 from 11, off 23 balls versus Tiruppur, was cautious, but he did not inspire a lot of confidence.

All-Rounders

Murugan Ashwin

Be it the powerplay or middle overs, Murugan Ashwin consistently brings balance and adaptability to SMP’s bowling unit. He took their only wicket in the last match but was expensive (3 overs for 37), partly because the opposition did some aggressive counterattacking. He batted steadily for 13 and helped break a collapse in the middle overs. Both with bat and ball, he is still a big part of SMP’s plans.

Another name in the mix is Rajalingam S, who provided some fireworks late in the innings with a quickfire 22 off 9. He gave up 27 runs in 2 overs, but is always capable of delivering the goods and has always been capable of delivering cameos with the bat, so a useful lower-order option.

Bowlers

Gurjapneet Singh

Gurjapneet Singh, even though he bowled the entire spell with no wickets, was the most economical after bowling 2 overs for 9 runs. No other bowler had as much control and variations. Saravanan will need to improve from his last outing when he bowled 2 overs for 25 runs, but he showed he can take the pace off the ball consistently, and every run is useful at the back end of the innings, so he keeps his place.

SMP may have faltered in their last match, but they are by no means out of the woods. With a solid core of players like Sarath Kumar, Chaturved and Murugan Ashwin to steady the ship, x-factor players such as Rajalingam and Arvindh poised to start firing, the Panthers have a line-up that can still roar under pressure.
