Predicting SA-C’s Playing XI for the 12th Match against AUS-C in WCL 2025

As the South Africa Champions (SA-C) get ready to take on the Australia Champions (AUS-C) in the 9th match of the World Championship of Legends (WCL)

2025, it is sure to be an exciting contest. SA-C is coming off a competitive loss against the Pakistan Champions and will look to bounce back strong. The loss was a competitive match and will provide SA-C with growth opportunities to solidify weaknesses, but it still showcased individual flashes for development. With the pressure of the tournament and the competition, it is essential to select a solid XI for the match against AUS-C.

Openers

Morne van Wyk and Hashim Amla

Morne van Wyk is where I’d like to start the innings. His whirlwind 44 off 20 balls at a nearly unbelievable strike rate of 220 in the last game shows he can give the team an electrifying start to the innings. With van Wyk’s experience and aggressiveness, he is the perfect candidate to face the new ball and establish a great base.

The partner that accompanies him, while the regular opener Hashim Amla managed just 12 runs at a fair strike rate, is still Hashim Amla. You cannot ignore his class and stability. The team management may strip Amla of the opener status and warrant something more out of JJ Smuts. He showed some intent in his quick cameo of 10 runs off 7 balls.

Middle Order

Jean-Paul Duminy and Jacques Rudolph

Jean-Paul Duminy and Jacques Rudolph are the introducers of the middle order because they are both able to stabilize the innings. Duminy’s 11 runs off 13 balls showed a lack of understanding of how to possibly accelerate the innings better. Although Duminy has not been motivating lately, having someone with Duminy’s experience of finishing innings is a bonus.

Similarly, Rudolph, who scored 10 runs off 11 balls, does possess the most correct technique in the world that allows him to anchor an innings if a situation may present itself. Also consider Aaron Phangiso. Phangiso offers some surprising pace with the bat and managed to hit a couple of sixes to help him reach 13 runs off 8 balls. Phangiso is a good balance between attack and stability.

All-Rounders

Wayne Parnell and Chris Morris

In South Africa, we have some aggressive all-rounders who can change the game with both bat and ball. Wayne Parnell showed us in the last game with his quick 21 off 9 balls, and he can contribute as an all-rounder. Parnell can be explosive with the bat and can also pick up crucial wickets with his quick pace bowling.

Chris Morris was the other all-rounder who showed up for us and managed 10 runs off 7 balls. Both are always going to change the game, with their batting impact and pace bowling. They can both offer the explosive change of pace as required at crucial points and should be picked in the playing XI.

Bowlers

Hardus Viljoen and Aaron Phangiso

Bowling was a mixed bag for SA-C in the last game, although some individuals did show up. Hardus Viljoen went for runs, but despite that, he took a wicket with 4 overs of respectable pace and bounce that would trouble any batting line-up.

Wayne Parnell, too, provided a timely wicket, as he’s shown in the past, he can break partnerships. These two pacers provide SA-C with the core of their bowling attack in terms of pace, variation, and experience. The spin option of Aaron Phangiso is important both economically and wicket-taking, as he can control the middle overs and keep the run rate down while providing regular wickets.
